When land, family, or criminal charges are on the line in Cherokee County, the wrong attorney costs you more than money. We've spent 25+ years inside this community — the courthouse on Delaware Street, the Cherokee Nation Judicial Branch, the allotment land that's been in families for generations. We don't need to get up to speed. We're already there.
25+ Years Serving Tahlequah | Cherokee Nation Jurisdiction | Free Consultations
Tahlequah isn’t like anywhere else in Oklahoma. It’s the capital of the Cherokee Nation, home to Northeastern State University, and a place where family roots run deep, and land has been passed down for generations. It’s also a place where state law, federal law, and tribal law all intersect on a daily basis. When legal problems show up, you need a law firm in Tahlequah OK that actually understands this community and how to serve it.
At Green Country Law Group, we’re right here at 205 W. Shawnee St. We’ve spent over 25 years serving Tahlequah families, business owners, and individuals. We know the Cherokee County courthouse, we understand what makes this area legally unique, and we’re here for whatever you’re facing.
Legal problems here don’t look the same as they do in Tulsa or Oklahoma City. Tribal jurisdiction questions affect everyday residents more than almost anywhere else in the state. Generational farmland in Muskogee, Cherokee, and Sequoyah counties carries a complicated legal history that creates costly disputes when it’s never planned for. And small businesses can’t afford a lawsuit that pierces their LLC because it was never properly maintained under Title 18 of the Oklahoma Statutes.
Estate Planning
Wills, trusts, powers of attorney, and advance directives that make sure your wishes are in writing and legally protected. Under Title 84, Section 55, a valid Oklahoma will has to be written, signed, and witnessed by two people who aren't inheriting from it. We make sure yours is done right and covers everything it needs to.
It can turn into one. Every generation that passes without a will adds more legal heirs to the title under Title 84. Over time you can end up with a dozen people who all have a legal claim to the same piece of land—and any one of them can go to court and force a sale of the whole property. Getting a plan in place now is much simpler than untangling it later.
More than you’d think. The moment you turn 18, your parents lose the automatic right to make medical decisions for you—even in an emergency. Without an advance directive under Title 63, Section 3101.4, a hospital isn’t required to involve your family at all if something happens. It’s a simple document that every adult needs, regardless of age or what you own.
Our office is located right in the heart of Tahlequah at 205 W. Shawnee St.—just blocks from the Cherokee County District Court on Delaware Street and close to the civic and judicial centers where so much of eastern Oklahoma law actually happens. We’re not a regional firm with a satellite office here. Tahlequah is where we work, and this community is who we serve.
If you’re coming from Muskogee or the surrounding area, we’re about 45 minutes west via US-62. From Stilwell or Sallisaw to the south, take US-59 N into town—we’re a straightforward drive up the highway. For NSU students and faculty, we’re less than a mile from campus.
